Alacati in 48 hours
If you are visiting Turkey in summer time, or if you are a local living in the city suffering hot, “oh so hot” weather then you’d need a weekend getaway. A short travel to help you chill. I got the perfect itenary for you. 48 Hour long Alacati get away.
Alacati is a summer town close to İzmir, one of the most developed and major cities in Turkey. Aegean people are known with their laid back approach to life, to everything and that is well reflected in Alacati living. The perfect spot to enjoy long and lazy breakfasts, al fresco lunches by the sea, Turkish coffee breaks in the afternoon and long, leisurely gourmet dinners and -if you have the energy- glamorous night outs.
To have a short relaxing weekend you should stay at one of the boutique hotels in Alacatı. All time favorite Tas Hotel has a well deserved reputation for its style and hospitality. Vintage hotel is quite a new comer but has a sleek and modern design with great breakfast that is served when you are ready for it. We stayed in Casa Bella for the last time, a new and cutely designed hotel which accommodates 2 small stone buildings and a pool area. It is owned by a lovely couple who were careful with details. I quite enjoyed staying there and would recommend the place.
On Saturdays you should not miss Alacati’s local bazaar where you would find fresh fresh fruit and beautiful home made jams, food and of course hand made clothes and house ware. Because bazaar visit will tire you out and make you hungry you will have have the excuse to take a pit spot a one of the “kahvehanes”,traditional coffee houses where you get to feed your soul and tummys with anything your heart desires. My pick is always to eat “menemen”, Turkish version of scrambled eggs or “gozleme” ,Turkish version of pancakes. When you are done with the bazaar you can go to one of the beach clubs to get a dip or just continue being lazy and hop from one caffe to another. I will not recommend you a specific beach club but perhaps tell the one to avoid: Marakesh I tried the place twice and both ended with regret. New money, awful service and pretentious staff. Of course this is my opinion.
For dinner try “Barbun” a fine dining restaurant where local produce is carefully and beautifully curated into yummy food. The decoration also feeds the eye which is a major plus for me. Try all greens and crab ravioli. You will not regret.
For the next day my reco is always to enjoy the comfort of the hotel for breakfast and then maybe roam in streets of Alacati and particularly getting lost in HacıMemis. I discovered the funniest, loveliest store ever. “POP” which a a collector’s treasure where you would find anything from old Coke bottles to vintage radios to anything from POP age. One of a kind place. Loved it!
